Nara

Nara (奈良市) is one of Japan’s ancient capital in the Kansai region, directly bordering Kyoto. It has supposedly Eight temples, shrines and ruins, which collectively form the Unesco World Heritage site known as the “historic monuments of ancient Nara.”

Large keyhole-shaped burial mounds were purportedly constructed between the late third and the early fourth century A.D. at the foot of Miwa Mountain, east of Nara Basin. It is believed that those mounds were for the ancient kings, who eventually expanded their powers over the entire land.
